Ford S-Max certainly excels in the market with its 2.0-litre TXWA diesel engines; it looks like a robin bird

Ford S-Max MPV gets 2.0 litre TXWA engines and it is impressively appealing when whistles like a robin bird in the greens of Scotland. Yes! It is one of the best engines across the engine line up of Ford S-Max. It is a 1997 cc diesel engine that exclusively gives the fuel economy more than 40 miles per gallon and cranks out 160bhp.

Why TXWA engines?

As in the UK, MPVs are being eroded by seven-seat 4x4s, but with lots of comfort and space, the Ford proves that there’s still a great appeal for individuals.

However, we wish that the S-MAX drove more like the one it is replacing as it is less expensive than its rivals but in its fuel consumptions, it is a real disappointment. The TXWA engines have given an opportunity to the S-Max to attain its old place in the market with better fuel economy and excellent muscle.

What is an S-Max? Comfy or economical?

Over the period we have tested the Ford S-MAX, we’ve come to love its blend of range, technologies, gadgets and handy driving tools. With the TXWA engines, Ford certainly excels in comfort and being cost effective.

Comfort is not that bad, where the cabin is very quiet on the go, the acoustic glass stops the noise coming from outside and its overall construction stops the road noise.

Technological advancements and driver friendly gadgets

The S-MAX makes use of the extra powerful 178bhp version of Ford 2.0 TDCi diesel engine, and is paired with a six-speed Powershift transmission that is an automatic unit. It has a plenty of punch, whilst a number of prolonged runs return noticeable fuel economy of more than 37 miles per gallon.

The are several costly rivals in the UK market to challenge the S-Max but they are costly than the quality offered. These are Citroen Grand C4 Picasso and the Vauxhall Zafira Tourer. However, the BMW 2 series Gran Tourer manages to undercut it somewhat on both running costs and fuel economy because the S-MAX is a quite costly MPV to run, with the most effective engine in the line-up delivers 57mpg.
